Import Mapping Page
There are two main sections on the Import Mapping Page: a pane on the right and a pane on the left.
The pane on the right is a preview of the file you uploaded. In it, the column headers are in the first column, with the data for that column going horizontally in the row. This is helpful to verify the fields in the original file contain the data you want to import.
The pane on the left shows what fields will be imported into Organizer Canvassing. The field from your data file is successfully mapped when the light blue bubble with your column header is in the corresponding dark gray field box.
To move fields into the left pane, click on the header on the right side and drag it into the desired field on the left side. You can recall an assigned field by clicking the refresh arrow.
Field Types
Fields can be one of two types, numeric or text, as indicated by the icon next to the field name. Text columns are limited to either equal or in (list separated by commas). Numeric fields will not recognize text (non-number, including "-" and "/").
Custom Fields
You can add as many custom fields as you would like. To add a new field, open the menu on the import mapping page and click Add New Field.
There are two components to a field: the Field Name and the Nick Name. We recommend that you enter the same name in both fields. Nick Name is what you will use to insert information into your Survey.
When building a Survey, you can make Custom Fields visible to and editable by Canvassers under the Person Info tab.
Save Mapping and Load Mapping
The Save Mapping and Load Mapping features will save you time if you are doing consistent data imports with similar files, using the same backend database. To save your mapping for future use, click Save Mapping, enter a name for it, and click Save. To utilize saved mapping during a subsequent import, select the file then open the Import Mapping Page and click Load Mapping.
Upload a List
When your file is ready to upload, click Upload at the top of the screen, click Choose File, select the CSV that you want to upload, and click OK.
If your file is not a CSV, you must save it as a CSV before uploading. To change a file type on a PC go to the Save as Type menu, then click File > Save As; on a Mac go to the Format menu, then click File > Save As. Select CSV from this menu and click Save.
Note that only the first or open worksheet will be saved when you convert from Excel to CSV, so make sure all of your data is on one tab in your spreadsheet or you will need to do multiple conversions and imports.
